Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 22, 2026
ClipShot ("the App") is a desktop app for Windows that captures and records your screen and organizes the results in a library. The App handles your personal information minimally - your captures, recordings, and library are all stored on your own device (locally). This policy explains what information the App processes and how.
1. Core principles
- No account, no login - install and start using it right away, with no sign-up.
- Stored locally - captured images, recorded videos/GIFs, the library, and OCR results are all stored only on your PC and are never automatically sent to any server.
- No ads, no tracking - the App does not serve ads or perform user tracking or behavioral analytics.
- No automatic transmission - diagnostic information leaves your device only when you explicitly agree to send it.
2. Information stored on your device (local)
The App may store the following information inside your device, either in the app data folder or in a save location you choose (e.g. your Pictures folder or a folder you select yourself).
- Captured images, recorded videos and GIFs
- Library information - capture title, creation date and time, type (image / video / GIF), the name of the source app the capture came from (where it can be determined), and text extracted from images (OCR, used for content search)
- App settings - keyboard shortcuts, display language, theme, and so on
All of this data is stored only on your device and is not transmitted externally.
3. Screen capture and text extraction (OCR)
- Capturing and recording happen only when you explicitly trigger them via a shortcut or button. The App does not record your screen in the background without your knowledge.
- Text extraction from images (OCR) is processed on your device using the OCR capability built into Windows. Captured images and extracted text are not sent to any external server.
4. Diagnostic & feedback information (only when you send it)
To help fix issues and improve the App, you may send diagnostic information only when you agree to send it. The App does not transmit diagnostic information externally on its own. The App may create log files on your device (ClipShot.log, panic.log) to help diagnose errors, but these logs never leave your device unless you explicitly agree to send them.
There are two ways it can be sent:
- From Settings > About > "Send Feedback", where you can attach an optional message and optional diagnostic logs.
- After the App exits abnormally and is restarted, a one-time prompt asks whether to send the previous error record (sent only if you agree).
If you agree to send it, the following information may be included:
- App version, operating-system architecture (e.g. x64), and display language (Korean / English)
- Any message you typed yourself
- If you chose to attach them, a recent portion of the app log (
ClipShot.log) and error log (panic.log)
Privacy protection: before logs are sent, your account name and user folder paths are automatically masked (replaced with ****).
Your captured images, videos, and GIFs, the original files in your library, and OCR results are not included in diagnostic information.
Transmission & retention: the diagnostic information you send, as described above, is transmitted over HTTPS (encrypted in transit) and stored in Cloudflare Workers KV. By the nature of Workers KV, the data may be stored in Cloudflare's central store and cached across Cloudflare's global network of data centers. This diagnostic submission stored on the server is automatically deleted 90 days after it is stored, via the Workers KV expiration feature. (This automatic deletion applies only to the diagnostic submissions held on the server - it has nothing to do with the captures, recordings, and library stored on your own PC.)
Submitted diagnostic information is used solely to diagnose errors and improve the App, and is never used for advertising, profiling, or sale to third parties.
5. Update checks
The App may connect to an update server to check for the latest version.
The Microsoft Store version checks for updates through the Microsoft Store, and the direct-download (.exe) version checks through the App's distribution server (clipshot-website.pages.dev).
Your captures and library data are not transmitted during this process.
6. Installation via the Microsoft Store
If you install from the Microsoft Store, installation, download, and updates are handled by Microsoft, and Microsoft's Privacy Statement applies to those.
7. Sharing with third parties & processing entrustment
The App does not provide, sell, or share your captures, recordings, or library data with any third party.
However, to store and operate the diagnostic information you send yourself (section 4), the App entrusts processing to the following infrastructure provider:
- Processor: Cloudflare, Inc.
- Entrusted work: storing and retaining the diagnostic information you send, and handling its automatic deletion
Diagnostic information is not provided to any third party beyond this entrusted purpose.
8. Data deletion
- Deleting an individual capture from the library removes that file and its library information from your device.
- Uninstalling the App may delete or clean up the settings and library data stored in the app data folder, according to how Windows manages app data. However, capture files you saved yourself, or files in a save folder you specified, may remain after uninstalling and can be deleted by you.
